Webster Green is best described as the quintessential green, a timeless hue for creating a reassuring sense at home.
October 22, 2026
By: David Savastano
Greens are always a popular color when homeowners look to refresh the look of their homes. Green is a tranquil, natural color, one that is versatile; consider the wide variety of greens that exist, from lime green to olive green to dark greens. This year, Benjamin Moore selected Webster Green, the “quintessential” green, as its 2027 Color of the Year.
“For 2027, our focus centered on the green color family,” says Andrea Magno, VP of brand, color, and integrated marketing at Benjamin Moore. “When we looked across the past, present, and future of color trends, variations on green consistently demonstrated remarkable staying power. Webster Green HC-130 reflects this timeless appeal by pairing reassuring stability with optimistic energy.”
Hannah Yeo, senior manager of color marketing and development for Benjamin Moore, notes that green has been a part of literally every trend for many decades.
“Green has always been a part of the color conversation,” observes Yeo. “We found that green has definitely been a part of every trend through the decades – Emerald Green during Art Deco; Mint Greens during the 1950s, Avocado Greens in the 1960s, pastel greens in the 1980s; and sage more recently. The green color is a color family that adapts to the trends.
“We landed on Webster Green HC-130 as our 2027 color of the year – it has personality and is adaptable,” Yeo adds. “We found ourselves almost distracted by all of the trends – this year the trends have been so fast-paced. We see an interest in returning to an intentional tempo; people are looking for items that earn their place in their home, a more curated, personalized approach. What we found there is a delicate balance between wanting to create your own look yet seeking a reassuring feeling.”
Yeo points out that blues create a sense of calm, assurance, and reliability, while yellows impart a sense of optimism, radiance, and positive energy. Putting them together is the best of both worlds.
“When you blend blues and yellows together, you get a balanced green, which encapsulates the feelings we found,” Yeo adds. “We kept going back to Webster Green, the quintessential shade of green. It isn’t a newly created color – it is from our past. Webster Green can be used anywhere, for trim or the whole room as well as exteriors, and has a little more bite than a Hunter Green.”
Yeo notes that Webster Green HC-130 is nicely complemented by seven hues – Antique Copper 1169, Durango 2137-30, Nelson Blue CW-635, Shakespeare Tan 288, Townsend Harbor Brown HC-64, White Dawn OC-131, and Wild Aster 1240 – selected from Benjamin Moore’s library of more than 3,500 colors.
“We have created a palette to pair with Webster Green,” says Yeo. “They are all very comfortable and endearing.”
Yeo describes how Webster Green pairs well with this year’s palette.
“Nelson Blue, a watery pale blue, feels so comfortable and easy to use,” says Yeo. “Shakespeare Tan is a golden neutral with an olive undertone. Wild Aster has a pink, bright undertone, and pairs perfectly with soft textures and can be used as an accent. White Dawn is a cozy soft white with a cream undertone and can be used around the home such as in the kitchen.
“Antique Copper has a warm spice undertone, and creates a dramatic feel without a dark color,” Yeo adds. “Durango is a moody neutral dark hue. Townsend Harbor Brown is a dark rich brown that elevates spaces.”
